So, you don’t want fine wrinkles, dark circles or puffiness around your eye. Why not? Because these are the first signs of aging your body will show.
Eye area care starts early, often in your 20’s or 30’s, to prevent eye ailments from ever happening. After all, prevention is the best medicine.
At the same time, it’s never too late to start taking care of your skin, even if the signs of aging are already appearing. Here are 12 tips to fight aging from the start.
Drink Water
The first and most important thing you can to keep your eyes from aging is by drinking plenty of water. Just make sure to drink it a while before bedtime to prevent water-logging your eyelids.
Moisturize
Your eyelids don’t have sebaceous glands or the glands that moisturize the skin. Use a gentle moisturizer daily to keep the eye area from being dried out.
Sleep
Lack of sleep (or getting too much) is the primary cause of dark circles. As well, sleeping on your side can increase wrinkles and other fine lines around your eyes.
De-stress
Right along with sleep, stress will age your face quickly. Do yoga, listen to calming music or take a day at the spa to prevent dark circles and wrinkles caused by stress.
Sun Damage
The sun does murder to your skin, and is especially bad for the thin skin under your eyes. Wear a gentle sunscreen along with your daily moisturizer.
Allergies
Though allergies aren’t a skin condition, they cause puffiness and dark circles under your eyes. Try an antihistamine for seasonal flare-ups or a daily treatment for more general allergies.
Eat Healthy
Malnutrition (which is a lot more common than you’d think in our society of fast-food) shows up in the skin as paleness. This will allow the stress it causes on the body to appear though the thin, weak skin of your eyelids first.
Nourish
Along with eating healthy, make sure your skin is getting the proper nutrients in your moisturizer. Vitamins (such as K & C) and antioxidants will nourish your skin and ingredients called “peptides” can even repair damaged skin.
Keep it clean
Though it’s difficult to clean the area under your eye without damaging it, use a facial cleanser to remove the dirt and grime of the day. However, stay away from acne treatments or exfoliators which will hurt the tender skin around the eyes.
Safe Make-up
Actually that’s a misnomer: even make-up that claims it’s safe for the area around the eyes still puts pressure and stress on the skin. The only safe make-up is no make-up.
Pressure
And speaking of cleaning and make-up, always use your pinky or ring-finger to apply or wash treatments from the area around your eyes. These fingers are the weakest and will do the least damage to the weak skin there.
Eye Creams
Always do your research to find the best eye cream for dark circles to make sure it will not only treat the dark circles, but won’t agitate other signs of aging as well. Better yet, find an eye cream that treats multiple simptoms.
A good example of such a panacea is Veralyze, which is a blend of peptides that firms the collagen around your eyes to keep them firm and strong. This treatment can even reverse the signs of aging!
